Back In the Day...
Before Fisher Body closed at the end of 1987, there was another yard on the old main line located just north of Atherton Road called Deming yard. When I-475 was built early 80's, you could drive over this yard at night, and see 2 or 3 different switching operations going on there. They also serviced a couple of other small businesses besides GM, one being Wolf Brothers Scrap yard on Grand Traverse St, Street Fuel on 12th street, and a little farther down near downtown was Dover Door Company. They still used rail up to the abandonment of the entire line after GM's departure. Dover still exists today, but obviously uses trucks.
