My 1963 NYC timetable shows Vassar having two designated "passing sidings" - each with a capacity of 44 cars based on a car length of 44 ft. My 1975 PC timetable shows one siding with a capacity of 38 cars based on 50 ft car lengths. Of course, only specific tracks were designated as passing sidings in the timetable, exclusive of other yard and industrial tracks that might be present at a station location. As a side note, our C&O passing siding east of the diamond at Vassar held 83 (50 ft) cars. Most meets we made on the PH Sub were at either Vassar or Brown City, the two longest sidings. Sometimes we could have the local clear up for a meet on the Back Track at Marlette. The sidings at Juniata and Clifford were normally blocked with stored cars. Guess I'm off on a "tangent" from the original Millington topic!
