I cover the CSX Sarnia subdivision operation fairly well, as well as lots of other stuff on this side of the border. Visit Sarnia and Port Huron about 4-6 times a year..
Darnit just as I get into the Port Huron waterfront run and get photos it changes to Lake State - wow that was fast.
At any rate, a couple notes for you folks in Michigan, since I've seen it discussed:
So far it's business as usual on the CSX Sarnia side. We're hearing the same rumours as you are, but so far only Montreal's CSX operations are on the chopping block.
That UP dimensional that ran across the border a few months ago - does anyone know if CSX crews took it thru the tunnel? I know CSX has rights to Sarnia but never uses it.... really curious about this one! Canadian crews in Sarnia used to take D718 from Rougemere in Detroit across to Windsor but that ended around 2012..
Lastly, for those willing to cross the border into Sarnia: CN recently re-activated THREE 1950's era GMD1 locomotives and they are all assigned to Sarnia Yard work - these things were nearly scrapped and left for dead until they decided to send them to Sarnia to get fixed up by LDS (Locomotive shop in the ex CN roundhouse in Sarnia). All three are in active duty and it will be worth your time to get these before they get sent elsewhere.
Hope this helps! Cheers all and again looking forward to future participation here.
