Good responses by everybody! The "diverted line" was built in 1900-1901, to avoid the Flint River grades and the congested downtown. This was before any auto plant opened in Flint. All passenger trains continued using the old line until circa 1928 when the 14th St depot opened. To make room for UM-Flint, GTW closed its offices downtown circa 1975 and ripped up everything between Saginaw St and the future I-475.
