It's a CN train so it's taking the most direct CN route to Toledo from BC, which is to take the Flint Sub through Lansing and to Durand, then south down the Holly Sub through Fenton, Holly, Pontiac, and into Detroit, where it heads south down the Shoreline Sub through Delray, Trenton, and Monroe before reaching CN's Lang Yard in Toledo. To go via AA would require running on the former NS/currently state owned Michigan line used by Amtrak and NS locals.
