I think Groesbeck Hwy gets the easy nod here. I can't really think of any businesses along that road between Mt. Clemens and East Detroit that would have any use for, or benefit from, rail service these days. The major customers for GTW were largely aggregate (Ernst, Allied, Maschmeyer),and lumber concerns (National, etc.). Most simply went out of business or moved, and were replaced by small fabricating, machine shops and parts suppliers. Trucks trump the railroad along M-97 now. The one hope for CN along this line would be in the warehousing sector, as there are plenty of empty huge buildings, some with rail already in place. Although it only lasted for 10 years or so, the aluminum storage racket was a huge business for CN, and was an illustration for the warehouse possibilities.
