Work began today (yeah, Sunday) on the new controlled siding in Mount Clemens, with new relay houses at CP "South Mount" and CP "North Mount" installed, as well as the requisite PTC 60' whip antennas. It should be a veritable beehive this week with dozens of cable and wiring spools staged to be installed. The new approach to South Mount is rather remote and inaccessible to fans and photographers - located between 15 and 16 Mile roads. The approach to North Mount will be located near 21 Mile, and is the only remaining signal yet to be erected. The new power switches for Nolan and Mt. Clemens will come next. Additional signals to the list posted earler are at Crawford and Pound roads - both north of Richmond. Initial work has also begun for the upgrade of Haven.
I'm told that they are still projecting the entire CTC cutover by this Fall, and then pick away at the complicated PTC aspects of the project. Also told that all signals will be "constant" lit - as opposed to approach lighting.
Tis a bonanza for the local food establishments in the Mt. Clemens Depot Historic District. Many hungry CN workers have invaded Warsaw.
More to come...
