The QLINE refers to itself as a streetcar. It's not anywhere near being a light-rail system.
Since the cars are off wire for 60% of the route, they have on-board batteries. Even modern lithium ion batteries weigh something. I wonder how that extra axle weight will wear the roadbed.
Take a look at the figures below(I rounded some). When I look at the stated capacity for QLINE I don't believe it. The figures are similar to the TTC Flexity which is 26 feet longer! And I know there are question about the TTC Flexity being able to carry anywhere near the stated crush load.
QLINE streetcar 87000 pounds over 66 feet.
1318 pounds per foot.
21750 pounds per axle.
Normal capacity 125 people, close to twice crush load(240?? or so).
Toronto TTC new Flexity streetcars 106300 pounds over 92 feet.
1155 pounds per foot.
17117 pounds per axle.
Normal capacity 132 people, 251 crush load.
