Oh please, Don. Let's not blame this on foreigners. American executives are just as bad (and often are worse) when it comes to treatment of American workers and communities. The bottom dollar reigns supreme. If it's cheaper to do the job overseas it's gone. If jobs can be eliminated and more work piled on to the survivors it will be. Example - by the time Pfizer is done assimilating Wyeth they will have laid off 100,000 people over 10 years and walked away from hundreds of communities.
