You can see the Lake State at Wilder Road, but if you want to get closer to the fuel pad, etc. you'll need a release. If train 301 (Bay City local) or train Z126 (SBS Essixville Local) are working the yard, you can get decent shots from the crossing while pulls foreword to the crossing while preforming their switching duties. Keep in mind the Z126 doesn't work there for too long, and the 301 leaves the yard for a few hours to go do switching elsewhere.
Mornings are the best time in Bay City. If you're there early enough, you can catch train 326 (SB road freight from Alpena) North of Wenona Yard.

Also, be sure to check out Wenona Yard in the morning. On occasion, you can see train 326 (LSRC), train 702 (HESR), and train 740 (HESR) in the yard at the same time.

8-10 is the best time at Wenona. Any other time and you may or may not see anything.
