I was head to Grand Rapids yesterday to do some railfanning. At 10am I was heading North on 131 at Wayland I saw the Grand Elk train pushing empty stone cars into the siding off 133rd ave. After breaking them off he pushed south with about 8 full stone cars to 132nd ave. I got a couple pictures and headed to Grand Rapids. I was coming home at 3:30pm and heared Grand Elk on the scanner around the Moline area. I jumped off the highway and found the train north of 140th still laying down stone. I have to tell you I use to live in Wayland and have walked the tracks from Shelbyville 124th ave to Moline 142nd ave (not all at once lol) and the tracks were beyond bad. There were spots that there were many ties missing. Most ties where broken up and in very bad shape. Now you can see the road bed stick out from a long distance with the new stone. I did see several piles of old ties along the way too. Its nice to see they are finally improving things.
