The SB I&O 400 was delayed about 1.5 hrs. today. I got to Carleton around 1430 hrs. waiting for the I&O. Just after I got there a police car took off on a run, followed by the fire deptarment. Saw the head light of I&O #400 coming after this occurred. Me & some other railfans heard something about a ATV. We first thought that the I&O was involved. Found out later that someone was shot, either on purpose, or a hunting accident. This happened between Briar Hill Rd., & I-275 in the woods. I should find out tomorrow what exactly happened after I get the local newspaper. They stopped the train because of the emergency vechicles proximity to the tracks.
After about 1.5 hrs. a Train Master from Flat Rock was on the scene & had the train continue "at a walk with a lot of bell & horn". He allowed #400 to run at track speed after he got to Carleton. The I&O passed me in Carleton at 1720 hrs. CN #246 followed @1808 hrs. with the same instructions.
I'm glad that the train wasn't involved in a collision with someone or something. I almost forgot, the lead unit was a clean CF&E engine, along with a nice wave from the conductor.
