wow what an amazing story, I too just happen to stumple onto this site because I read the Gazette online and that is how I heard about the story and found this link. I have lived down south for the past 12 years but I grew up right across from the State Hospital and played on the grounds during the 80 - 90's. The hospital and ground were our playhouse, small children playing in the buildings, forest and houses around the grounds. It was still open when I was very young but by the time I was in HS it was totally closed down and not safe to wonder the grounds. I am amazed as I read your stories, i grew up in the 80's and like you my mother had charges brought up on me a "CHINS" under stubbord child. Knowing the NSH grounds and the history behind it to think instead of foster care I could have been put in there.....
