They were definatly not milk snakes (and they do live in Pa I've caught them myself). But anyways I emailed a herpetologist at the carnegie musuem of natural history and he identified them as being juvenile black rat snakes. Having only seen adults I thought they were corn snakes but more of a dark phase.
