I did find someone to take the turtle, but it was very hard. (She's 12 years old and the size of a dinner plate almost-just to give you an idea how big yours might get!)
The person I gave mine to said they can live up to 30 years or more.
I contacted every turtle rescue/ reptile rescue and NO ONE ever got back to me. I suggest asking your local pet store, putting an ad on Craigs list, etc.
