Posted by Sebastian I don't have any words of wisdom or comfort that haven't already been said but I can tell you that Rob touched the lives and hearts of many, many South Africans and today will be a sad day when I share the news with those of my friends that would have known him...

I'm writing to you from South Africa and I find myself dumbstruck having just discovered about Rob's death, only today (21 November 2003)...
If I remember correctly Rob sat down right next to me on his first day at school in South Africa at Sandown High (1989), being the personality that Rob was, I'm proud to say that we soon became great friends. He and I played on the same rugby team for that season and I will never forget how naturally he took to the game, like a duck to water! I'm not sure what position he played at varsity but he made a great wing for our team and we had a very successful season, largely thanks to Rob.
South African's like yourselves, I believe, are proud and patriotic and I still to this day admire and respect how Rob moulded into one of us for his stay in SA.He did however teach us how to drink Tequila and made us stay up all night to watch the Superbowl which I'm sure he regretted as he had to keep explaining what was going on.
