That story reminded me of the first time that Thomas was working in DC, his Jr. year in college and David and I had gone to visit him, and had taken him back to his American University home and were trying to get to the beltway loop that would take us back to VA. We were totally lost and ended up at the Capitol Mall. It was very late, I was tired and frustrated and so we stopped at asked one of the Mall police for directions. I guess he saw the look of despair on my face as he told us to "turn here, go under this and over that" and finally he just said "Follow me" and lights and sirens going, he escorted us to the correct beltway on-ramp. I've never been so grateful to an officer before or since!!
