Hi Jack;
Here's some information for you. You can call direct from the States. We called several places for you. It was closing time - most of the Labs run by Doctors do that close around 6:00 PM Mountain Time.
1.) Dr. Victor Quiroga Cardiologist
Ph. nos. from States; 011-52-311-213-0890
011-52-311-213-0898
2.) Dr. Hector Javier Lozano Tovar
Ph. no. from States; 011-52-311-212-1241
Ave. Allende 171 Pte. Tepic
I think you'll find Lab Costs to be around 33%
of what they are in the States. For instance
many X-Rays are only $50.00 USD equivalent. I have a friend coming down from Boulder Colorado later this month - going to pay for his whole trip by the savings by getting the X-Rays he's been wanting for years at this cheap rates. Of course my wife will be translating and helping him the whole way.
Pretty darn good Blood work up for $60.00 USD
equiv. Oh, and for about 30 pesos more the Lab Tech will come on his Motorcycle to your home or Motel and draw the blood. You go to the Lab and pick up the Computerized Results after 6:00 PM the same day.
Medical Dr. Costs. We have Internists we see from $200-400 pesos per visit. Best Othropaedist in town $500.00 pesos per visit. General Practicioners are $200-300 pesos per visit.
Great little Hopital run by Nuns for over 100 years 1.5 blocks from our house. Bigger private room $600 pesos per day!! They've run it for over 100 years now.
Current Pesos rate: $13.27/ 1 USD.
Does this give you some reference of how cheap it will be? If you're not old enough for Medicare you could probably save enough difference to live down here every month!
If you need more help; My wife Alicia Salyer a recently retired Occupational Therapist (23 years) from California could help you on a Consulting basis $20.00 USD equivalent/ hour. She is a Mexican and USA Citizen. She went back to school and got a Hospital Administrator Certificate from Cal State Univ. Long Beach, and before coming to the States over 30 years ago Managed the Laboratory for the largest Pediatric Hospital in Mexico City.
She can take you in to see the Doctor, translate
and help advise on best Doctors for what ever you need (and budget) here in Tepic.
Life is a whole lot less stressful down here. I retired 2 years ago down here from California. Within 6 months, I was off my Cholesterol Medication, and off my High Blood Pressure Medication while with the IMSS Medical System down here $604.00 USD equiv. per year for man and wife over 60 years of age! Of course, I now
walk 25-30 mins after lunch and dinner to accomplish this. Since Oct. 2008 I've lost 25 lbs. Our food here is less processed - meaning you don't fine Corn Syrup in everything and MSG, that makes you still hungry after you eat. That's probably the main reason why most people in the States are so over weight - that and we walk most places here rather than drive. It's more like the European life style - healthier.
Oh can't walk too much. Most Taxis around town $20-25 pesos one way, add $5.00 pesos for in the night. Bus system insanely cheap!
You live down here and you can get your Sr. Card for free. You can save an additional 50% on many purchases including R.T. First Class Bus tickets and some Air line tickets. We took a 850 mile each way trip to Puebla, Puebla on super first class busses, (the likes of which they don't even have in USA) for only $1200.00 pesos R.T. for the both of us over Christmas!
I hope this helps you. What part of Idaho are you from? I have relatives near Sandpoint, ID.
Cordially,
R. Cuyler Salyer
