Please no geniuses allowed as I might have to live up to that ranking and that's not what retirement is all about...The drive to Tepic takes about three hours but it is a toll road and the cost is quite a toll...Maybe a Tap bus to Tepic (or similiar) and then get a car if you want to get out of Tepic...Cabs here only charge 20 pesoes for anyplace within city limits during the day and 25 pesos at night...That's why even grocery shoppers take cabs back and forth...Taxi's are a good deal...As far as getting a rental here or there, there are more rental agencies in Guadalajara and, if you are planning on looking around the Guadalajara area, then swell, rent it there...Otherwise, at least consider the 'leave the driving to us' incentive as a viable alternative...Guadalajara isn't the easiest of cities to drive around in as it is huge...I'm going to flake out and say either way works...
