Hi Cat,
This is the perfect place to post your questions. You may want to read the permament message Living and Retiring in Mexico at the top of this page. Scroll down. It goes on forever.
1. No adapters are needed for electrical items brought from the US. We brought everything we owned if it had a plug. You may want to take note...CD and DVD players purchased NOTB of the border will not play items purchased SOTB. The opposite is true for CD and DVD players purchased in Mexico. We believe this is an attempt to control piracy.
2. Cell phones are available on every street corner. Internet services are readily available, too. We have seen much improvement in internet service since we arrived in 1999. We can't remember the last time we had problems with our internet provider.
3. We brought our elderly cocker spaniel and a twenty-ish year old persian with us when we made our move. We had the 'required' veterinarian forms for presentation at the border but as with most folks the immigration people could have cared less.
4. Most people do what we do about banking. They/we have their funds direct deposited in a US bank and transfer what they/we need to a Mexican bank as needed. We use California Commerce in the US and their affiliate Banamex here. Transfers are made on toll-free lines from both countries at excellent exchange rates. Our money is available from our Mexican account while we are speaking with the transferring representative at our California bank. Service by both banks has been error-free since we opened these accounts in 1999. This system gives us a clear paper trail at FM3 renewal time. Other people leave their money in the US, use ATM cards for withdrawals and swear by their results.
When will you be arriving? Where will you be living? Why did you choose Tepic?
Hasta later,
Alice
