Hola Cliffardo;
It was great to see you and Alice the other day at Sanborn's. Ah, a charming wife with a beautiful character she is.
Sorry, I don't get around to VIP's much at 7:30 AM - hey I'm retired. I know that's late in the day for you though. Anyway it was great to see you and hear about your trip to San Blas. I enjoyed your blow by blow description on your board - it was even more detailed. Casa Manana is so pretty sitting out on the patio in front of the restaurant watching the sea from atop their little cliff.
License Tags; Plates
For anyone that get' stopped, just showing the Policia (what ever variety) your FM-3 or a photo copy will let them know you're not driving a "Chocolate", = illegally imported vehicle, and that expiration does not matter with your FM-3. Anyone having any reservations, I guess about anything legal should make a stop over to the friendly people at “Hacienda”, the Tax Office people. There if you ask politely, they will get the book out covering the Law with “Extranjeros” = us, and let you photo copy what every page you want that pertains to what your are worried about. For those that like to keep current with their tags here are two suggestions.
Florida; Drive through there, get a motel receipt or friends address to use as a residence, take their diver's test and get a license. No waiting for them to send you a license. Florida you can have 2 licenses - they don't care. Then you can renew your license by mail one time via sending a check to the local Tax Collector and he'll send it to your other USA address and they can forward it to you. So, you only have to drop by once every two years in person.
Louisiana; Cheapest Tags in the USA.
Get a motel receipt as an address pay $42.00 (was) for 2 years and your on your way. Yep their tag is good for two years without renewal.
Balneario; (Bal-near-io) we have so many of them close buy just outside the City to soak your body on these hot tropical days.
Since, you've trekked to Xiala, and Jala I thought I'd turn you onto our favorite Balneario
Don't remember the name of it, but will give you a real good description how to get there. It's only about 20 minutes from your house. My Brother-in-Law Lalo turned me onto it.
Big description. It's on the back road (the eastern most route) to Agua Milpa.
Coming towards Tepic from Guadalajara on the free road, you cross over the bridge over Rio Monololo (sp?). Then take a right or North at the very next intersection (be in the right lane). You will see your first big statue there on the corner
This road is called "Avenida Agua Milpa", and you will pass the big "Gas" place to fill up Propane Tanks on your left after half a mile or so. Cross over the R.R. Tracks and the road becomes "Camino Viejo a la Cantera", that jogs east then. About 2-3 kms. later you will come round a bend after going by 1000’s of little INFONOVIT built homes and see a little Lake on your right. Keep going about another 1+ miles you will see about a 2 meter sign on your left hand side of the highway announcing the "_____Balneario".
Drive in on the gravel road and in a couple of hundred yards along the Bougainville lined driveway you will see a structure. That's the office. Go pay them your $10 peso per person for use of the grounds. At the office you can buy Refrescos, y Antonitos tambien.
You might want to drive around before parking to get the lay of the land. There are 3 pools here for you and one that is a little bit more secluded is across the stream down the hill.
We love this place as we felt it is the most perfect melding of beautiful natural landscape and man made pools around Tepic. It has terraces with shade awnings and places for your own grilling. Lot of beautiful bougainvillea and huge Banyan Trees here too.
Go on a week day say around 10-11:00 AM and you will probably have the whole place
(several hectares) to yourself. Hey it’s out in the countryside and you will have beautiful vistas of hills everywhere you look. We could see not one man made structure to block the beautiful natural vistas. When we were there around noon there was like 3 other couples there. Later after 1:00 PM about 3-4 large families came to grill their lunch and enjoy the grounds with all the kids. This place probably holds 400 people on hot Sundays. Go when it’s quite to enjoy the serene beauty.
If you don’t want the more secluded pool across the stream, then park up top by the office as the rest rooms are about 30 yards behind the office. Parking is included in this cheap price of 10 pesos each. There are dressing rooms on the other side of the pools.
The two pools near the office are BIG feed from a natural spring so the water is a nice cool temperature (not cold at all). They re-route part of the natural spring into the first pool. Since it comes in just as it is – it can be a little bit cloudier, than the other pools, but it’s still clean. This pool kidney shaped is big enough for hundreds of people are deep enough for swimming nice laps. The pool next to it is about 3 foot deep, more for wading, but you can still swim in it and the water is clearer. Surrounding both pools are man made terraces made of cement with chairs under metal awnings to enjoy the scenery and get out of the sun. There they have interspersed “the classic Mexican Bar-B-Que”, meaning a tire rim on 4 metal stilts if you want to grill something and many people do on the weekends. Lots of bougainvilleas tastefully placed here.
The creek with spring water runs the length of the pools to the south of them. The owner’s have tastefully placed a few plastic tables and chairs interspersed in-between the ridges of the Huge Banyan Trees trunks here. Great cool place to hang out on a hot day.
The water is clear and you can walk the length of the creek observing the clear water and looking for little fish. When you hear a rustle in the leaves look quick to get a glimpse of the Iguanas before they dash away.
Next across the creek in a little clearing between the creek and hill is a 3rd swimming pool. I just looked from the creek to it. It appears clear water like pool no. 2, but is more secluded being on the other side of all the foliage of the creek. There were two couples in their 20’s there having their own party – and you can too.
So, for less than the price of a bus ticket in any major city in the USA you can have a delightful morning-afternoon swim and relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Take your lunch and have your own picnic there after your morning swim?
Enjoy.
Cuyler
