Hi All;
I just thought I'd inform everyone that the great top drawer Hotel and SPA that our ex-Governor Tonyo Echeveria reconstructed in Jala is finally open... Book 2 nights and they give you the 3rd night free. That's a 33% discount, and it comes with Breakfast for 2 included!
Jala is that historic little town about half way between here and Guadaljara on Carrettera 15 and the Toll Road. Actually it's about 45 miles east of Tepic. I have always super enjoyed the place as it is literaly like an Historic town frozen in time. The time being the time of the Revolution. All cobble stone streets, Gas Lamp (type) Lamps on the main drag and INAH (the Federal Hysterical Society) has a lock grip on every property there. You can't even to paint your house without their approval.
The weather is dryer there than in Tepic and you won't feel those "Serenas" cool humid winds at night like in Tepic. Jala is set in a small valley surround by Mt. Cerabuco, a semi extinct volcano and other tall Sierra peaks.
Disclaimer: In no way are we related to the Echeverias, nor have we any commerical insterest nor renumeration in giving this Hotel review.
I'm treating my wife Alicia to a night there as a Mother's Day Present. We recently stopped in Jala on the way back from Guadalajara just to show Alicia the changes. She loved Hotel Xali. It's right on the main town plaza just north of the Cathedral. It's reconstructed from a house in the 1800's and only has about 14 rooms. You can surely sample what it was like living in one of these old homes staying there.
It's a hotel built around a SPA theme. A very good masseuse therapist to take care of you. By renting a room there, you get full use of the SPA and it's BIG sunken Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna rooms. Two blocks down the street is where their guest parking is, and a big gym and out door pool with beautiful views of the cliffs north of town and Mt. Cerabuco. This is all included also.
The Standard Rooms have 4 poster beds with very comfortable mattresses, posh ***** rooms with what I'd have to call half egg shell raised baths set against a rock wall, and a lot of glass. Rate quoted was $1080.00 m.n. So, if you stay 3 nights, that works out to only $70.00/USD/ night including Breakfast, and their Brochures states the rates include IVA (Taxes). Make sure to inquire about that item before finalizing your reservations.
Jr. Suites go up from there and they have two incredible Suites for large families, or when close family members come to stay with you. One is a 2 bedroom suite, about 1300 sq. ft. by my calculations with 2 bathrooms and a room for a Jacuzzi big enough for 4 people and a front room. T.V.s and other fancy ammenities. That is going for around $234.00 USD/ night with a 3 night stay, and 2 free Massages per night!
Massages are around $30.00 USD per, and they have Chocolate or Mud Wraps for $32.30 USD +-
You can rent Quads, pedal mountain bikes to go around this incredibly preserved Historic City, or rent Horses.
So, if you wanted a ***** Hotel experience and SPA to pamper yourself, but not exhorbitant prices - well go check Xali out. Here's their web site:

Enjoy.
