Hola all you expatriate patriots,
Have you ever had one of those days when you just knew that something very interesting was going to happen??? Yesterday Alice and her co-hort Gail were heading downtown for some more fabric that eventually will be turned into ballgowns by our super seamstress Manuelolita so I decided that I would walk on over to Telmex and Siapa to pay my monthlies and then proceed afoot over to LaLoma to see if Bob and Jan might have any questions about Tepiclandia in their search for their own retirement paradise and then walk back by way of Soriana to pick up some necessities that were not available at Ley's or Walmart...I also needed to pick up some sandpaper at a hardware store which was interesting in itself as the girl on the other side of the counter didn't have a clue when it came to what I was talking about but a passerby customer bailed me out by telling this damsel in distress that I wanted some papel de lija...Thanks stranger...Anyway, I was planning on having a quiet afternoon at home, what with Alice shopping and all, and then there was a set of events that changed everything...First I decided I wanted to have my comida at Laloma so I went back over there and had hotcakes, bacon and toast to make bacon sandwiches out of while leisurely sitting outside underneath a palapa...So far, so good...By the way, Bob and Jan were out both times when I was at LaLoma...After my all-american comida, I proceeded to go home and sandpapered the bottom of the front door that was draggin' on the tiles...Then, after Alice had returned from her shopping downtown and comida with Gail at Frigata, all heck broke lose...The front door middle lock fell apart while the bolt was securely in it's place and we found ourselves locked inside with no way to get out...Every window and exit in this house has wrought iron over it and there really was no way to get out...Even taking the door off it's hinges wouldn't work...Trapped!!! Even the front gate into the garage was locked so no one could even get to the front door from the outside...Alice called her friend Martha who, in turn, called a locksmith and then Alice called good-neighbor Gail who came over and unlocked the front gate as she and Sylvia have sets of keys to our house, and eventually a locksmith showed up who had to punch out the old lock and then finally at around 7:30pm we were once again as free as a bird out of our gilded cage with a new gilded lock in place...Very strange feeling to be locked in your own house with absolutely no way to get out...Very strange indeed...After our release, Alice and I tripped over to the local taco stand and had six tacos, fully loaded, to get our nervous systems back in order...All in all, this set of events just goes to prove that life here is truly unpredictable and if you can live with the fact that everyday something unexpected surely will happen when you least expect it, then you are truly a naturalized citizen here in this land of undulating adventures and not for the weak of heart...I wonder what today will bring??? Just one adventure after another, that you can count on!!!
Off to Vip's now to coffee up and get ready for the unexpected one more time...Viva Tepic!!! Viva Nayarit!!! Viva Mexico!!! What a ride!!! Have a good one folks...
Adios and cheerio,
Cliffardo
