We live in Bucerias, Nayarit. It is just north of Puerto Vallarta.
Our house is owned through a bank trust. Beleive me, it is nowhere near as expensive as Cyler said. We pay less than $50 US per year for the bank trust. And then another $45 US per year in property taxes. We live 3 blocks from the beach, up a small hill.
I don't worry at all about hurricanes, there is insurance available if you want it. Our homeowner's insurance does not cover hurricane but does cover earthquake.
We love living in Bucerias. It is very hot and humid in the summer, but we have survived 2 summers here. You can always plan your travels around that hot season.
