I believe you can book a flight to Tepic on Aeronaves de Mexico, from various US Cities and they actually fly into the larger Guadalajara Airport and van you to the Tepic Airport coming and going. Like almost getting a free bus tour
through the Sierras seeing pueblitos in the distance like, Tequila, Jala, Santiago de Ixtquintla. Sorry about my spelling.
Camping; You might email Jeremy at Jeremyspath@hotmail.com. He is an Arboritist who
works at Quail Gardens in Encinites, CA. He comes down here about once a year with fellow
Arboitists looking for rare plants and camps out
in the mountains in Tepic. He could give you
some good scoup on that.
In a more tame and safe fashion, they also have rental camp sites at Laguna Santiago del Oro at one of the resorts there. I hear there is a community of Italians and Frenchmen there from one of the Tepic cab drivers?
Actually meet a German Grad Student last month in the Tepic town square who worked his way into the trust of the Huichol and spent a month treking through out the Sierras here with them through their annual pilgramidges. Gutsy guy. He was chronicling their customs and
languages for his research. Don't have his email address.
Best to get some advice before you camp. There
are some big critters around here in the jungles.
Cuyler
