Alicia, when I lived in Ajijic in 1986-1999 I met a Gringo older man that was living with a young lady and two children. They decided that Ajijic was to expensive since he was still paying alimony back home. She used to live in Chapala as a young native. She went by herself to look at a house and liked it for only $65 american dollars. She told the owner that she would be back the next day with her husband to sign a contract. Well! When the owner of the house saw that it was a gringo, he saw nothing but dollars!! He jacked the price up, doubling it to $130, take it or leave it. Retiring Americans be aware of this going on. On the other side of the coin: we tend to think it is cheap compared to prices at home so in a way we have made our own bed in Mexico. Mis dos centavos.
