Posted by Cliff on 10/9/2007, 6:37 am My native country, thee, Let music swell the breeze, Hola all you expatriate patriots, I am up and happy to be part of life and liberty and still able to pursue happiness!!! I am a lucky man!!! After some thought I have decided to give you one week of pictures of my grandmother and grandfather's life as it was in Nome, Alaska come 1905 when they returned from California after getting married...Keep in mind that my grandfather had gone to the Yukon in 1895 at age 17 and then to Nome in 1899 when they discovered gold there...To set the scene, today's earlier picture below shows my grandfather kneeling down in front of some of his successful miner friends a little more than a year later in 1900...He was 22 by this time...Sometime between 1900 and 1905, after having his brothers John and Sam come up to join him at the mine, Grandfather went back to California to find his lifelong partner!!! I needed to get him into the picture first to set the scene as he was my leader of my band for 9 years (from age 5 to 14) when I spent 3 summer month vacations with this pioneer icon at our cabin in the high sierras (7000ft) where I was taught to be a man, slowly but surely!!! Grandfather had no fear of the mountains and the 'wilderness' and neither have I as a result...Just a deep and lasting appreciation... Meanwhile, back at the Ranchita, Alice and I are living our life as we know it SOTB and enjoying every minute...I have done my chores and have slicked up to a presentable state and am now ready to go out and take on the day especially since the Yankees are history!!! As I have stated many times before, rudeness and arrogance are not tolerated here at anytime!!! George is arrogant and poor Joe will now pay the price!!! Such is the life of a sport's manager!!! Joe Torre is a good man and deserved the best!!! Alice and I went over to Burger king yesterday and polished off two grande Whopper Combos and finished off this delicious repast with vanilla frosties all around...After this satisfactory interlude, we strolled over to Soriana and did the gringo shuffle around left to right and top to bottom...All I came up with that I needed was a big jar of Skippy peanut butter, honeynut crunch style...We love that stuff at the Ranchita!!! Great snackin' at midnight!!! Just a little spoonful makes the rain go away and any troubles go down the drain... I hope that I might have the pleasure of your company today at Vip's as that's what friends are all about in the wee small hours of the morning, coffee and tall tales if you are a fisherman!!! See ya??? Hope so!!! Cheerio for now, Cliffardo

My country,' tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims' pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!
land of the noble free, thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
thy woods and templed hills;
my heart with rapture thrills, like that above.
and ring from all the trees sweet freedom's song;
let mortal tongues awake;
let all that breathe partake;
let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.
