Posted by Sue on 9/17/2007, 9:06 am The morning of the 16th we joined the other members of the Nayarit Civil Protection and participated in the parade. The department had about 80 people and probably 25 vehicles in the parade. I do regret that being in the parade kept us from seeing the rest of it. There were thousands of people along the parade route. We really enjoyed participating in the festivites and parade. After the parade, we returned to our hotel, took a quick nap and then headed to the Manger Steakhouse for lunch. Harold had the ribs, an excellent choice. I had tortilla soup and a hamburger. It was also very good. Didn't get to visit with Cliff and Alice - maybe next time.

My husband and I are both volunteers with the state of Nayarit Civil Protection crew in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit. That's at the coast just north of Puerto Vallarta. We were invited to go to Tepic with the crew for the festivities. On the night of the 15th we joined about 15,000 other folks outside the Governor's palace in Tepic. There were 2 stages with live music, lots of food stands, and red, green and white everywhere! Governor Ney Gonzalez led the singing of the national anthem, rang the bell and read the Grito, followed by some great fireworks. Gonzalez then came out into the plaza and shook hands and talked to people for about a half hour. The music continued for a while after the grito. We strolled around the plaza and the downtown area just enjoying the night.
