Posted by Chelle on 11/1/2005, 9:33 am, in reply to "Re: A Love Connection" Dez: I knew you'd get out here when this came on. The two of us walked away and I knew that KJ's eyes were still on me. I looked back, winked, and kept on walking to the ladies room. I knew that through him off and I loved it. I mean hello I was being a complete b###h when I met him. But I liked to keep people wondering. But I knew we would never work for the simple fact is he lived in Los Angeles and I was here in Ohio. So hey I had a little fun with it. Dez: So, are you feeling KJ or not ma? After that I walked out of the ladies room. I couldn't go back to the painful memory of my childhood and refused to. But when Dez said that it took me back to when I was 15. I shook my head and went back to the bar to get some water. When I got to the bar D looked at me funny. I made a fake smile but that didn't through him off. D: What's the deal ma? You aiight? I walked back over to where I had left KJ and Germain before. Dez was standing in between the both of them laughing and talking. Though I wanted to believe that Germain and KJ weren't bad people that little part of me couldn't help it. What can I say I'm more cautious of people these days. My mind started to drift back to my horror memories when KJ pulled me out of them. Peacez,

We went on the dance floor right next to Dez and the guy she had been dancing with for the entire night which was unusual for Dez.
Me: Well you do know this is my song. So I had to come out here and shake what my mama gave me girl.
Dez: I know that's right ma.
Me: So who is this that you've been dancing with all night long missy?
Guy: My name's Germain Johnson.
Me: OMG! I know who you are. Dez do you know who this is?
Dez: Girl I just met him. He's from Los Angeles and super nice too.
Germain: I guess she isn't into sports that much huh?
Me: No, I'm the sports fan between us. I love basketball.
Germain: A basketball fan. KJ, you've got yourself a winner here man. Hold on to her man.
Dez: You two know each other?
KJ: Yeah we came out here together.
Me: That's coo. And I just met him so we aren't even on that level.
Dez: Yeah, besides she's too busy with her job to even be interested in anyone. That's why she's single now. And has been since she was 17.
Me: Dez don't start that. I'm here tonight aren't I?
Dez: Yeah. But of course it was by force and begging.
Me: Whatever. I just didn't want you out here by yourself. It's too many weirdoes out here for that lil ma. Too many damn li'l boys thinkin they thugs.
KJ: I think they forgot that we were here all together man.
Germain: Of course they did. You know when women get to talking they forget about the men they're with. But at least we have each other.
KJ: Hey man, I love ya but I'm only kickin it with the ladies.
Germain: Man I know that. I was just saying since they got to talking to each other.
Me: Would you two like us to leave you alone?
Dez: Really. I mean since you two are all into each other.
KJ: Don't even try that.
Me: Why, what ever do you mean?
Germain: Now she wants to act like she's stuck on stupid.
Me: Anyway, Dez, D said he would call you tomorrow since when he gets off you won't be home yet since that would be too early for yo ass to be home.
Dez: You've got that right. D gets off at two o'clock and my ass will still be out here tearin up the dance floors.
Me: Not me girl. I have to get to work in the morning.
Dez: On a Saturday? Why and what time?
Me: No later than 11am. I have a few new clients and I have to read through their files so I know how to help them. I have to come up with my strategies.
Germain: Clients? What kind of work do you do?
Me: I work with Cleveland's Rape Crisis Center with children and teens. And I'm a counselor for preteens and children.
Germain: Damn girl you do all that? How old are you?
Me: Yeah, I do. I just turned 22. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I work at the elementary and middle schools. Then on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays I work at CRCC.
Germain: When I was younger I remember my counselor being old and wrinkled.
Me: Well I graduated high school at 16 and from college at 20. I worked straight through the summer every year.
Dez: Yeah and I'm trying to make her forget about work for once. She works too hard as it is.
KJ: Do you ever get tired of it?
Me: I feel you can never get tired of doing something you love to do. That's why it's so easy for me to do my job.
Germain: That's true. You must really love what you do huh?
Dez: Come on. I was trying to make her FORGET about work. And you two keep on talking to her about it.
Me: Dez, you can't make me forget about something that I love to do. I told you that already.
KJ: So what exactly do you do for these kids?
Me: Well most kids just need someone to talk to. So I counsel the girls and I try to give them a female figure that they can just talk to and they know that they can ask me anything. I mean when I was their ages I didn't have anyone to talk to and I was not about to ask my mother about anything she didn't talk to me about. And then with CRCC I try to help the children and teens get passed whatever has happened to them. They won't be able to forget it but at least they have a way to get out whatever they're feeling afterwards. I try to let them establish their voices. Most adults give children the feeling that they are only meant to be seen and not heard.
Germain: My parents used to always tell me that. Maybe that's why I'm sort of screwed up now.
KJ: Naw I think they just dropped you on your head too many times when you were younger.
Dez: That ain't right man. He's supposed to be your best friend.
KJ: Yeah he's still my man. I'm just telling the truth about him though. He knows it and I know it.
Me: So how long have the two of you been friends?
Germain: Damn, since we were about three or four. His family moved next doors to mine in LA and we became instant friends.
Dez: That sounds like us when I was in sixth grade and she was in fourth grade. Her family moved across the street from us and I was trying to be cute for her older brother who was in the eighth grade.
Me: OMG! I remember that. that was what 12 or 13 years ago?
Dez: Damn we're old now.
Me: Speak for yourself ma. I'm only 22. The three of you are old as hell though.
Germain: Girl I'm only four years older than you.
Me: Yeah and those are four long years that you are older than I am too.
KJ: Damn girl you're vicious.
Dez: No that's just her being an ass right now. Don't mind her, you only have to deal with her for one night. I, on the other hand, have to deal with her for the rest of my life. Be happy.
Me: Damn Dez, I'm hurt. You don't love me?
KJ: It's coo. Now since she doesn't love you anymore, I got you next.
Me: Anyway. So Dez are you going to come to the game with me or not? I got this extra ticket and I really don't feel like letting it go to waste.
Dez: I ono. I think I'd get bored. You know basketball isn't my thing. I'm more of a music head.
Me: Come on Dez please? You owe me big time for dragging me to all these parties that you're always going to.
Germain: Yeah Dez go with her. I'll be there.
Me: See your new interest will be there. Please, please, please?
Dez: Aiight fine. I'll go but then you owe me again.
Me: Thanks sweets. Aye I'm about to go to the ladies room. I'll be right back.
Dez: I think I should go with her. Be right back.
Me: Yes but no. Just for the simple fact is he lives in Los Angeles. If he lived here then hey I would love to "pursue him", but since he doesn't oh well.
Dez: I think you should still talk to him. I mean he's nice and whenever he's back in Ohio you two could hang out. Then if you're ever in LA you could visit him.
Me: Dez, sweets, like my Suga Mama said, there's no since in beating a dead horse. It's more than 3,000 miles between us. That would never work.
Dez: Yeah aiight. But what do you think of Germain?
Me: Oh he's coo. And he can ball. I mean brotha is 6'8 ½, has some of the best stats in the league, and he was Rookie of the Year last year and a sure win for MVP this year.
Dez: Umm, I wasn't talking sports related honey. You already know I can't stand sports but I would watch that brotha play all day long. I was checkin out his left hand and he has no wedding ring. Doesn't have a girlfriend from what I gathered. And I would move anywhere just to be with him.
Me:[laughing] Girl you hardly even know him. What makes you think he wants you around? And what makes you think he isn't a undercova psycho?
Dez: Please Shai. Why must you always believe the worst in people? Why can't for once you believe that a person really is how they seem?
Me: Because no one is really how he or she seem. Remember that. I had to learn the hard way.
Me: Yeah D you know me, I'm fine. Can I have some water though?
D: Sure hun. I saw you out there makin moves with that cutie.
Me: Oh you know me, when Lumidee is on I gotta dance.
D: Are you sure you're okay?
Me: Yeah I just had a little spat with Dez in the ladies room about Germain Johnson over there.
D: Why, did he try somethin?
Me: Naw, D. I just told her that she can't go believin that everyone is what he or she seems like. And she told me I shouldn't always believe the worst in people.
D: Well I'm with you. I don't care if he is a big time basketball player. Ain't nobody perfect. Like my mama said, everybody's shit stinks.
Me:[laughing] I heard that. But let me go back over here so she doesn't think I up and left her.
D: Aiight ma.
