You know how we do [packing more things in her suitcase] Nicole: No, that's ok. 3 is a crowd, Venessa. I don't want to bother the 2 of you. Venessa: Girl, we don't care. You know how Mike is. He's an easy-going guy. If it's the fact that you'll have no date, then you know Mike has that part of it covered. He's got hook ups. Nicole [laying on the couch watching TV]: That's not the point. The point is that the 2 of you are going on vacation. It's your anniversary. That's something that you do as a couple. You don't need me for that. Venessa: You act like we're going to Austrialia or something. We're only going down to South Beach for the week. That's all we can afford. We'll only be like an hour away. We'll come back up here and get you if we need to. [walks out to the den and looks at her] Look at you...sittin on the couch, doing nothing...you REALLY need to come with us. Nicole: No, I'll be ok. I need to be here by myself for Spring Break. That's what I REALLY need. Just some peace and quiet. [looks up at her] It's not that you're loud or anything it's just that I want some time to myself. You undertsand, don't you? Venessa: Yeah, I get you. Never hurts to have some of that. [KNOCK KNOCK] Nicole: I'll get it. It's probably Mike. [opens the door] Hey Mike. How are you? Mike: Good [hugs her]. How have you been? Nicole: Fine. Are you all ready for your trip? Mike: Yep. Everything is in the car. Are you SURE you don't want to go with us? I have PLENTY of room in the truck. Nicole: I was just telling Venessa that I'm going to stay here and just be by myself. Peace and quiet this Spring Break is what I'm looking forward to. Mike: Ok, if that's what you want. It's all good. But you know that we'll only be a phone call away. You know that we'll come up here and get you. Nicole: I know. That's only because you guys are so sweet. But thank you though. The effort was there. Have a good time guys. Venessa: We will. Bye girl [kissed her cheek]. Call me if you need anything, ok? Nicole: I will mama. Bye Mike. Mike: Bye sweetie [kissed her cheek]. You let us know if you need anything. Nicole: I will. Now get out of here! Have a good time! [They leave. She waits until she sees them leave the complex and then she broke down in tears] Nicole [outloud]: Why do I have to be alone? I just want someone to love me in spite of who I am. Is that too much to ask for? [Phone rings. She looks at the caller ID. It was her friend Porcha] Nicole [weak voice]: Hi Porcha... Porcha: You sound like you were crying. What's wrong? Nicole: Nothing... Procha: Don't lie to me. What's wrong with you? Nicole: I don't want to talk about it...why did you call? Porcha: I wanted to tell you that there's a party at my house tonite. Wanted to see if you would be there. Nicole: I don't know... Porcha: Ok, now I know there's REALLY something wrong with you. Black folks never pass up a party. You got a lot of explaining to do. So talk... Nicole: It's just that I sent Mike and Venessa off to their trip for their anniversary and I'm alone now. They asked me 1000 times did I want to go with them and I said no b/c that wouldn't be right. So I'm here alone...anything else you want to know? Porcha: Nope. I thought it had something to do with that. But I wasn't sure. Well, have no fear...you come to this party tonite, you'll feel a lot better...[pause] Oh, I have another call. I'll call you later. You gonna be there tonite? Nicole: I'll think about it. Porcha: Well, it starts at 11 and goes until I say so... Nicole: Ok...bye Porcha: Bye [hangs up the phone and there was a knock on the door like 10 mins later] Nicole [opens the door]: What the hell are you doing here? MV: I just got off the phone with Porcha and she told me that you were alone this spring break. So I thought that I should come over and cheer you up some... Nicole: No, I don't think so. I think that you came over here to get some, Joe... Joe: No, that's not why I came... Nicole: Just b/c you ain't gettin none from that slut girl named Tangie... Joe: This has nothing to do with Tangie... Nicole: I THINK it does...and I think you need to leave... [begins to shut the door] Joe: Nicole, wait...[looks into her eyes] have you been crying? Nicole [tries to hide her face]: No. What gave you that idea? Joe [opens the door wider] Let me come in... Nicole [unwillingly opens the door and lets him in] What is it? *thinking* well, that was my first mistake lettin him in here. But I don't have to tell him anything [shuts the door] I have nothing to say to you, Joe... Joe: Well, I'll just sit here until you do. I'm off. I don't work this week. I took the whole thing off so I could have a good time. This'll be a spring break to remember...
