Recent search of NYC Health turned up a 'Macartne' of West 45th Street, NYC, born Feb 27, 1882, parents Joseph [from France] and Ellen O'Reilly, of Ireland. This was the closest I've come to finding my father's record of birth. Obviously, the spelling was phonetic. His death certificate is McCartney, born Feb 22, 1882 with those same parents listed.
Can anyone clarify or give direction as to how I can get a correct birth certificate. In truth, I have been unable to get the copy of the certificate that I foolishly returned to NYC Health believing it to be sent in error.
