Edwina,
Don't now if you got mu information but it would appear that we are related as your Washington is a brother of my Paden E. McCartney (my-g-g-gf). Their parents were Robert Isaac McCartney & Lydia (Runk). Grandparents were Ephraim McCartney & Ann (Sanford). It is said that Ephraim's father emigrated from Ireland.
Dr. Dave McCartney of Aurora, Ill. has a website page devoted to this entire family line on genealogy.com. Quite interesting as the family line must be quite huge by now with many McCartneys descending out of Pa. probably not realizing they are distantly related through this family line.
It is said that Ephraim & Ann had 8 children & I only know of Robert I. so the other & 7 McC. children are at this point unidentified but my guess is that some of them are still in Pa. as both Ephraim & Ann died in Washington Co., Pa. (Ephrain in 1825 & Ann in 1853).
Our family generation of Robert & Lydia are all over the midwest, northwest, & west as they moved out of Washington Co., Pa. in the early 1830's, went west to Ohio and then in the 1850's to Iowa.
