Those songs on that site don't work for me, gives me some sort of network error. I think there's something wrong with that site. Try some of the shows here: http://www.otr.net./?p=freb to test your setup.
You don't need the MPC player to make real alternative work with winamp, MPC is something that you can use -instead of- winamp. To get the best results, you need to install real player 8. Tara isn't fully compatible with the newer codecs (which unfortunately also includes the real alternative ones). However, it should still work, just not with all available features. You can -not- use the "process audio through winamp" option unless you're using RP8, which in turn means that you can't use winamp plugins and such on the file/stream. The file/stream should play fine however, no matter what version of real player/alternative you use, as long as you have the process through winamp option turned off.
: Ok, sometimes I'm not the most computer literate person out
: there, I'll admit that up front. Here's what I think I
: know: Tara plugin for Winamp will allow Winamp to play .rm,
: .ra, .ram, .smil, and any other Real format files as well
: as rstp:// streams... but you need to have Real Player
: installed first (for the codecs). Some people have gotten
: it to work with Real Alternative instead of Real Player.
: But I can't get this setup to work right!
:
: Are Tara 1.0.3b and Real Alternative 1.50 compatible with
: Winamp 5.24? Can I install the Lite version of Real
: Alternative, or do I need Media Player Classic for all of
: this to work? Can someone explain in detail the process
: required for properly setting up Winamp to play and stream
: Real format files? Please include what to download and any
: installation tips.
:
: By the way I'm trying to play one of the songs on this
: page: http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/release.php?id=153
: So if anyone with a working set up will try it and tell me
: if they can get it to work I'd appreciate it.
