The most accurate (but cumbersome) way of identifying a Winamp-friendly URL I've found so far is by using Media Player Classic. Thus I open the `unfriendly' one in MPC, go to the file properties, where the friendly one is shown; then copy it to the clipboard and open it in Winamp. Has anyone worked out a quicker way of doing this, please? I'm using Winamp Lite 5.24 with Tara, and RP8 codecs. Many thanks.
I find that these days I have to `translate' URLs to make real audio streams playable in Winamp. For example, I `translate':
