FYI - the registry is faster than a file... that's why it was made (take a look at MSDN and you'll see that all the INI file APIs are deprecated too). If you want to see the channels in a file then just save the registry info to a file... it only takes a couple seconds. --Previous Message--
Installing a new version of Winamp has no effect on SpinAmp and will NOT cause it to delete the registry info. The only way you can avoid seeing the channel changed dialog is if you deleted the registry info.
: Thanks.
: Now as far as the registry thing, when I updated winamp
: to the latest build and did an update channels instead of
: showing this big window listing all the channels that were
: updated or not updated, I juts get a window that says
: hkeyuser/ etc in the registry was updated. May not be those
: exact words but... Anyway, is there a way so that I get
: that big window listing channels every time istead of that
: registry thing (that registry thing usualy happens just
: after a new winamp install to a newer build), or as a
: sugestion, maybe write spinamp so it doesn't save things to
: the resgistry but to a file in the in the spinamp directory
: like a channel listing tit reads. I think it will save load
: time and at any time a user could look at it and see what
: channels are available without opening spinamp. I have no
: idea if that is even possible but that is just an idea. In
: my opinion, any application in windows that does not use
: the windows resgistry loads faster and usualy runs fatser
: with less memory being used. But I don't even know if it is
: possible and that is just my opinion. Thanks.

: Yeah I've seen this one. It only happens when you first
: install, and I've fixed it for the next version. Not sure
: when I'll put that version out though... sorry been very
: busy. Hopefully sometime in the next couple weeks I'll get
: some free time.

: Ok after several months of no errors, upgraded to the lates
: version of winamp 5.23, after every winamp version update
: ran a version check to make sure all is good, and then a
: channel check to make sure I have all the latest channels.
: The version check wen't ok, but I got the error during a
: channel check. See this screenshot of my desktop. maybe it
: is because I am not using one of them classic skins? I
: dought it but you never know. I look forward to see if you
: have seen this and what can be done to fix it. Again this
: does not happen every time, usualy the 1st time after a new
: winamp version is out, and I update channels for the 1st
: time after that. Sorry if the screenshot is to big, I am
: not thne best at making screenshots and I wnatred you to
: see the error clearly. Again thanks for all your help in
: getting this resloved.

: Maybe it is something with my machine. But I tell you what,
: next time I get that error, I will take a screenshot and
: post the optional image URL here. As far as the 2nd thing
: with the registry key I'll make another post and post an
: image URL's to those as well. Untill then, don't worry
: about it. Again, everything works except for these 2
: weirdnesses and like I said initialy I'll post images when
: I take screenshots next time the error pops up. These
: things don't happen every time I load Spinamp, but as soon
: as they apeear.... You get the idea. Again, thanhk you for
: replying and following up.

: I have WinXP SP2 on three different machines, and I've
: never
: seen that floating point error. I'm not sure what your #2
: point is regarding... every time I update channels it does
: list the channels/genres that were removed and added. I
: just did this a couple times in a row and it worked fine.
: The 1st time it reported that a couple channels were
: removed and a couple more were added... then the 2nd time
: it reported that nothing changed.

: Sometimes when I update channels in winamp in my WinXp Sp2
: machine from home, with the latest verion of SpinAmp and
: Winamp, sometimes I will get an error that say something
: about an invalid floating point. I press ok, and then
: update channels again. The 1st time I updated channels
: after I click ok on the error, is that Spinamp tells me
: that some registry key was updated and lists the registry
: key. The 3rd time I try it (2nd time after the error),
: channel update shows what channels were removed, added
: etc., but since channels were updated allready the last
: time when channel update just shows that registry key,
: everything is at 0. My question is, 1) Has anybody seen
: this error and know how to fix it?, and 2) even though it
: is cool that everything is neatly saved in the registry and
: Spinamp reports that the registry was updated, it would be
: nice just like on my Win2k machine at work, where it
: actualy shows what channels are changing. Also at work on
: my Win2k machine, I don't get the floating point error. Now
: I am not sure if this is WinXp sp2 related, or the fact
: that at work I use a classic skin and at home I use a
: modenrn one? If anybody knows much would be apreciated.
: Spinamp still works ptherwise, just a slight anoyance or
: bug. Thank You.
