I think it took Tony a pretty long time to appreciate Luke. When fame came, he thought it was a stepping stone to something else. "Else" never really happened for him. If it happens even once, it is a miracle. Even a brilliant actor can be passed over because there are so many others out there who will get cast in roles for a myriad of reasons that have nothing to do with talent.
I miss Luke. The writers and Tony gave him the chance to do the unexpected. That was part of his charm...surprise. He was never boring or usual. It was that off-balance, sometimes devilish charm that gave him much of his appeal. He sustained that even as he became a senior citizen for 40 years. What an accomplishment!!!
I truly hope he is enjoying retirement. He's earned it. He brightened my life for a lot of years.

He was so handsome and yet he was so often cast as
a really bad dude. The one with Robert Reed you can see a little pre-Luke in the character's attitude. He's terrific in all three. Different characters, different looks, an emotional actor.
