Not me. I see Laura. But part of the "problem" for me is that I watched Tony do Luke for many more years than Genie playing Laura. He is almost too familiar. I know every expression too well. At some point there is a cross-over between the character on a soap and the actor. The two blend to the point that it seems they are one and the same. So, the actor might not be anything like the character that he/she portrays, but they become one in the minds of the audience.
He said he hated auditions and it was one of the reasons he stayed at GH. Also re the play, I couldn't see anything except Luke doing Shakespeare. At least I have been able to see Genie in movies and I don't think Laura. Well, at least not for long.
The longer he goes without performing, the less likely it becomes, I think. Auditioning is tough for anyone, and rejection is even tougher. At a certain point, I would think that a person would say to himself, "Who needs this?" Tony always said that he loved to write. He has a story to tell, and I would love to read it. I hope he is working on his memoirs.
Ginger - I completely agree with everything you wrote. I wonder if Tony will ever perform again...he mentioned "Dutch theater" when he retired from GH in 2015, but we haven't heard/read anything about that.
OMG!! What a riot!!! I have never seen this, but it really shows me that Luke killed Tony's career. When I watch this, it looks like Luke is in a costume with a strange "English" accent and cadence that seems like the "Sword of Malcouth" story. I'm waiting for "the Magus" to enter on stage left!
Truthfully, after you have been Luke for 30+ years, how does the public accept you doing anything else? Tony had a double edged sword with Luke. That character was a once-in-a-lifetime character, but it precluded him from doing anything else and shining.
I had forgotten about this. He starts at about 5:50.
