Thanks for posting that link, Rose. Honestly, I don't think the viewers of today have any idea just how popular this show was in its day. It had the ability to make a song a pop hit. It propelled careers of many talented people...think John Stamos, and so many others. Lots of stars from other media just wanted to get walk-ons to be a part of it. There was a media frenzy unlike anything that I have ever seen before or since. Tony and Genie were on the covers of every soap magazine and newspaper as well as teen magazines and mainstream entertainment publications. They were all over on talk shows too. It was a blitz.
By the way, did you see that ABC cancelled "The Chew"? They lost OLTL and its devoted audience for that totally stupid show, and now they have nothing but an extension to their news show. They are never going to compete with CNN and the other 24/7 news outlets. Really stupid management over there. Look what Brian Fons wrought.

: To this day when I hear Rise, I think of
: Luke
: and Laura and that rape scene. I loved that
: song. I maybe crazy but I don't really
: associate rape with that music, I think of
: LnL and their crazy relationship and how it
: evolved into the love for the ages. LnL put
: Rise on the map. I still love hearing that
: song. TG was such a great dancer too which
: really made that scene work with Genie.
: Those were the Days!!

: It's amazing to me how the dramatic moments
: of
: LnL can be brought back by the music
: associated with them. ""Think of
: Laura" always makes me wistful when I
: hear it. "Fascination" has a
: special place in my heart. "Rise"
: is another one that beings back LnL
: memories, and the music on the sailboat
: seduction scene also does that for me.
: There was a dance scene to Donna Summers
: (can't remember the name of the song)
: "She works hard for the money...".
: GH was a work of art in those heady days
: of the 1980's. Tony and Genie put Herb
: Alpert on the map. After the rape,
: "Rise" became a national hit. GH
: was a great platform for music artists. It
: didn't hurt Rick Springfield's career to
: perform, "Jesse's Girl", a song
: that a lot of people thought was written for
: his character on GH, Noah Drake, and jackie
: Zeman's Bobbie who was living with the
: nurse, Jessie, at the time. Tony had a part
: in the music selection for some themes. The
: whole show was brilliant. Sad that they
: can't sustain that now.

: They're playing Rise right now at work. It
: amazes me how good this song is.
:
: Was it popular before the infamous L&L rape
: scene, or only after?
