I might add that I will be particularly annoyed after all these years of investment, if they let Genie go for good without addressing this. I never wanted Laura with Kevin...stopped watching the show over that one. I found it as disturbing and many of the folks here when Luke married Tracy. So, try for a re-cast of Luke. I'd come back for that.
A word about re-casts...
I don't feel that any actor/actor owns a role. We have discussed that many times here, and I know that some folks disagree. There have been three Carlys. There were 3 Luckys. There have been two Jasons. There have been 2 Lulus. The character is MORE important than the actor on a soap because the show is on for 50+ years, and no actor wants to commit to that. Musical chairs is not a good game for a soap. New characters often don't take root. They interrupt storylines. They have to connect to established characters. A show that is built on generations of families shouldn't lose an established, beloved character just because the actor wants to move on. Some recasts are more successful than others. But the audience DOES accept them. I remember Kirsten Storms playing Maxie one day, and the next day, someone else was in the role due to her illness. It only took a scene or two for me to adjust to that. Surely, with 2 years distance, the character of Luke could be played by someone else.

: Part of me wishes they would recast Luke and
: bring him back since TG would never do it,
: but it will never happen and for good
: reason.

: Laura needs a romantic partner that they are
: willing to invest in. This needs to be a
: contracted player with tremendous talent
: because he is going to be playing against an
: extraordinary talent and the memory of TG.
: I never saw Jon Lindstorm as that for her.
: Kevin was a pretty dull character and only
: came alive when paired with wacky Lucy. I
: don't even care if the person is a vet on
: the show. They can reach out and get
: someone completely new, but it must be
: someone with charisma and talent. Without
: that, I fear that she will only be
: "Momma Bear" to Lulu and Co.

: and to become irreplaceable to GH ?? Hook
: her
: up with a screen partner that the EP, etc.,
: are REALLY invested in. A player that has
: clout and a loyal fanbase.
:
: Valentin, for a bit, was an interesting
: antagonist for her and her family. He became
: more important to them as the romantic lead
: for Nina and softened his edges, etc. Bad
: for Genie, though.
:
: If she comes back, her main story and her
: character has to have a direct connection to
: a player that has a lot of history and
: staying power with GH. And, not just the bad
: guy that they bring in for
: "sweeps" kind of thing.
:
: Her daughter's story with Charlotte should
: have been a heart-tugging, dramatic saga,
: but the Lulu actress' performance was so
: weak , so lightweight and without depth ,
: that it was dead on arrival. Imagine how
: that could have played out for all the
: actors. Imagine that story with Guza at the
: helm (don't shoot me) and Julie B in the
: lead.
:
: Genie's only real insurance policy is that
: any return has to connect to a formidable GH
: vet with a devoted fanbase and compelling
: story that gives her staying power. (ie what
: the Cassidine/Stephan/Nick story did years
: back for the whole Spencer family ).
:
: I know..."yeah, right" .

:
: Unfortunately these people seem incapable,
: or unwilling, to really, truly invest in a
: Laura that's totally disconnected from L&L.
:
: All of us can come up with a dozen ideas for
: Laura, but the sad reality is the best
: material she's gotten since the late 70s has
: involved Luke Spencer.
:
: They knew how to write Laura the love
: interest, the co-adventurer, the strong and
: loving mama bear, the paramour, the
: objective of obsession, for Luke and several
: other men. That's why they were able to
: write Laura-centric stories without an actor
: for so many years, because that's how they
: see Laura.
:
: I will give Ron credit; he got Laura pretty
: wrong in 2013, but I loved what he started
: doing with her in 2015 during Luke's exit.
: THAT Laura should've been continued. She was
: bold, strong, independent and vivacious. But
: he was fired, and that was that.
:
: I actually hope Genie doesn't comeback
: without assurances of a real story, one
: that's truly about Laura.
:
: In the meantime I'll keep getting through
: the year and some change of GH I've still
: got to watch, and enjoy her appearances as
: much as I can.
