Why can't one of them just come out and say, "You know what? We made a terrible mistake! We HEAR the fans, and we're trying to fix the situation!" WOW! How refreshing that would be, instead of TPTB trying to dial back an error as if it's because they're attempting to do Genie a favor instead of rectifying a "screw over"?
I've never said that Nathan doesn't tell the truth, and I'm quite certain that if he's saying TPTB are trying to give this to Genie now, that is probably true ONLY in light of the outpouring of outrage that has rained down upon them this last month. Once again, they underestimated the fans and certainly underestimated Genie's base! I don't think they had a clue just how unacceptable their disrespect was going to lay, but they are discovering that it's not laying well!
In this #MeToo movement, the fact that the disrespect they heaped upon her THIS time came one day before a MEGA March on Washington regarding ALL the b.s. that women have & are having to take over a myriad of issues that show just how tone deaf TPTB have been for YEARS over what the viewers want; who they want to see on air; and the kind of stories we want to watch, reeks of a stench that has been emanating from this show for much too long! So, while I believe that Nathan is speaking truth in THIS moment, there is also the very REAL component that it's part truth to bull$#i%!
I'll leave you with this example, then, I'll crawl back under my rock:
I think the way that MANY of the Genie fans are feeling about Nathan's commentary is that it's not fully sincere. It's like the young man said to Marco Rubio last week: I appreciate you being here, Senator, and making an attempt to address the issue, but until you denounce being in bed with the gun lobbyists, what you're saying to us doesn't feel completely authentic! Otherwise, you'd be outraged over what is happening here, and stop attempting to smooth over the upset and outrage with 1/2 hearted platitudes because you still side with the ones who have created the problem in the first place!
So, what I'm saying here regarding this issue is that, until TPTB stop attempting to gloss over this egregious disrespect that Genie and her fans have once again experienced and realize that when someone contracts, in good faith, for a three year contract with specific criteria, you cannot continue to not honor obligations, and actually break trust, then think it's all going to be alright with explanations that on the face of it sound pro-Genie, but at the heart of it is just cover-up over the anti-Genie action that caused the outrage in the first place! It's glaringly disrespectful to the woman who many feel/believe is now the heart, soul and face of this show & a large part of the audience who are the bread and butter that keep the show in production.
I don't know what all is going on behind the scenes. All I know is this, which are all verifiable facts: Genie Francis has been a faithful, loyal and hard-working "soldier" for ABC-Daytime. She deserves its appreciation and equal respect! She's made some mistakes along the way of her professional career {who hasn't}, but she has learned from them. She is beloved by her fellow actors and certainly by her fan-base, so while I appreciate that Nathan came out and made a positive Genie statement and an attempt to make this all better, it feels a tad disingenuous for the simple fact that what he claims is being worked on now for Genie, had already been done for Genie. TPTB yanked it away from her just as her front burner story, which tied back to a decades old history of her story with the show was getting off the ground. It simply cannot continue, and those in charge MUST be held accountable, otherwise, NOTHING will change.
As always, my friend, thank you for letting me further vent.
Blessings~

: As far as I am aware Nathan Varni, who has a
: job much bigger than just GH, doesn't seem
: to have a history of lying, and ignoring,
: the way the direct GH showrunners do. He has
: nothing to really gain by saying that the
: writers have been instructed to work on a
: Laura centric story worthy of Genie, or
: acknowleding that they dropped the ball by
: keeping her in the background.
:
: I also just don't think Genie would be
: tweeting Frank, and Nathan tweeting Genie,
: if something wasn't in the process of going
: down.
:
: Does that mean Genie will get another long
: contract? No idea. I know Genie hasn't
: worked recurring before, but perhaps she's
: willing to now? I have no clue.
:
: I do think the backlash has been fierce, and
: finally have a network exec acknowleding
: that they're aware. I think the outrage has
: been working and that there is hope. And the
: fight should continue.
:
: This just does not feel at all to me like
: the long, awful Guza/Frons/JFP years. Never
: once did ANY of those people, even once,
: speak publicly about Genie deserving a
: strong, Laura centric storyline worthy of
: her talents.
:
: Hell those bastards didn't even offer
: recurring, as far as we know.
