I don't think any of us would want to see Laura turn into a mob moll. She doesn't fit the gun-toting character that Anna (as a police chief and WSB agent) brings to the canvas. They are not telling the kind of stories that fit Laura.
Honestly, I wish that they had let Luke go off with Laura and brought Genie back a few weeks later as a look-alike cousin or twin. She could have been quite a different character who was involved in the mob, etc. That might have been fun to watch. However, Genie's sensitive portrayals of emotional content are NOT what they are selling. She needs to break away from this genre.

: The thing with Finola and the reason I still
: see her front and center is she looks great.
: She excercises, still has her dancer's
: body, wears sexy clothes and maintains a
: certain persona. They wouldn't dare put
: Finola in some big brocade jacket or a big
: red velvet dress they stick on Genie. They
: have made Genie into a matronly soft spoken
: loving protective Mom figure and the higher
: ups don't give a rat's patootie about that
: type of character for the show. They want
: someone dangerous, sexy and at times,
: ruthless. People watch GHor soaps for
: fantasy characters. They can get Mom and
: Applie pie at the house. Genie is an icon
: but what happened over 30 years ago is not
: what they are concerned with now. Genie has
: a fanbase but that doesn't matter to them.
: Her fansbase is not who they are reaching
: out to as viewers. They don't want anymore
: LiLi Q's or The Horton Fam, or that type of
: family drama for this show. They want Sonny
: and Jason and Drew and Sam. The proof is in
: them just renewing Maurice's contract and
: giving him his own storyline now.Genie just
: needs to let go of GH. They have let go of
: her numerous times.If I were Genie, I
: wouldn't want to come back knowing they
: didn't really want me anyway. They don't
: value her and have no place on canvas for
: her, I think Tony knew this about himself
: and that is why he knew it was time to call
: it quits,

: I don't know what Finola's contract says,
: but
: she does take time off for outside projects.
: She might have chosen to earn less to have
: more freedom. That was Tony's choice when
: he realized that he was getting too
: expensive for them. He chose more time off
: in place of salary increases. I am just
: guessing. I do know that Genie herself said
: that LnL were an expensive ticket, and the
: money for expensive talent doesn't seem to
: be there any more. With a few exceptions of
: people who they perceive as critical to the
: show, most of the talent has to have more
: realistic expectations. The budget just
: won't allow everyone to reap the ideal of
: job security and high salaries. I don't
: know what they see that we don't. Is it the
: advertisers who are driving for a youth
: market and demand for younger talent? Is it
: fan response to the men on the show that
: makes them more valuable? Is it something
: about Genie herself that makes her difficult
: to work with? Is it the perception that she
: represents a show of the 80's that doesn't
: exist any more? Who knows? I will say
: this. When they chose to take her off
: contract, they knew that there was a chance
: that they would lose her and alienate her
: fans. They were wiling to take that risk.
: That tells you something.

: Do you think Finola earns more than GF?
: She's
: been on GH and AMC off and on since 1985.
: She had her own fame and heavy story lines.
: She left angrily when she was going to do a
: night time show. They replaced her so fast
: and with a beautiful woman. She may not
: have good stories and they zapped the life
: out of Anna, but she's got to be earning top
: dollar.
:
: You reminded me of how they handled the AMC
: trade back to GH. I'd stay away from soaps
: too. CBS, NBC and ABC all had her and all
: messed with her. Write the book!

: I don't know. Dummer sounds pretty correct
: to
: me right now!
: The only thing I can think of is that she is
: too expensive for them at this juncture.
: I'm not saying that she isn't worth it, but
: loyalty in business doesn't exist any more.
: You can work for a company for 35 years and
: be let go in a flash. In Genie's situation,
: it just might be that she has to adjust to
: the reality that soaps might not want to
: make their big investment in talent to the
: budget in a middle-aged woman who was their
: big star back in the 80's and 90's. The
: truth is that the show has moved in another
: direction...away from family stories. The
: newer audience does not remember LnL or who
: she was when she was an ingenue. The kinds
: of scenes they shoot are not filled with
: emotional content. They are short, little
: plot-driven bursts. That is not the kind of
: work that she does best. So, probably
: someone on high looked at this and made the
: decision that they would like her from time
: to time but not enough to put her under
: contract with supporting characters and her
: own storyline. They view her as another
: Jackie Zeman or Leslie Charleson.

: She scheduled her college classes around L&L
: so how could she do this to Genie? I mean, I
: know business comes first, but wouldn't she
: have been the one to fight for Genie? I'm so
: confused and heartbroken. (I wonder if her
: last name has given her a lifetime of
: ridicule. I would have changed it to Drummer
: or something completely different.)
