I'm a Kevin fan, and have been since I was a kid.
I think Kevlaur have a sweet chemistry, and the actors pair well together.
But the romance was badly executed. Most of it was offscreen. And have they had any obstacles besides Kevin writing that book?
In hindsight it just wasn't the best look for Genie Francis to be paired with a recurring actor who was on only about a quarter of the time she was.
Romance is foundational to soaps. There is a huge difference between the way the show writes, on a romantic front, for Carly, Ava, Alexis, Anna and Nina vs Laura. On a show like this that is enormous.
KevLaur, and Laura being seen as a nice, sweet, matronly lady who needed to have a nice, sweet, tepid romance just didn't help Genie.
They didn't even play up all the drama they COULD have. Why not a more protracted, dramatic triangle between Laura/Kevin/Lucy? Why not bring back his evil twin Ryan to stalk and threaten Laura? Why not show the dark side of Kevin, which he does have?
There is so much more they could've done with this romance, instead of writing it as the Steve/Audrey replacement.
