I posted earlier, but the manner of Claudia's demise has been weighing on me all day. I shouldn't be shocked, but this amount of violence does cross a new line. I second Ginger's question about who TPTB think they are playing to. Soap opera viewers do NOT want to see horror-movie-type blood and guts.
Some other random thoughts: wonder if this was a slam at SJB because she left the show early and vocally about not being happy with the direction they were taking her character. (Wonder if they promised her something different??) I guess if you leave the show in 2002 and are honest about why, you lose your mind and are sentenced to catatonia; in 2009 you are hacked to death by a kid.
Also Ginger has mentioned several times that the rightful heir to GH SHOULD be Lucas Lorenzo Spencer, Jr. I think after today, we know where Guza is looking for an heir--Michael Corinthos, Jr. How terribly, pathetically sad. What a horrendous message GH is sending, but I guess the good thing is--not too many people are watching anymore. I still haven't watched today's show (and won't be able to view the "hacking"), but I really have difficulty with the fact that they let a teenager carry out such a violent act. Aren't there Standards and Practices for Daytime?? How much they can show and what they can allow a teenager to do?? I guess my pet dinosaur and I are living in a cave to believe that somebody wouldn't say NO to that sort of violence . . .
To add a little more salt to the wound, Guza says in the current SID that at least happiness is around the corner for Michael because he's going to have a "love interest". Yes, let's reward the kid for a brutal murder. Guza is so very sick and twisted. Do these writers and producers sit in their meetings and see who can sink to the lowest point and that's what they write??? UGH.
Finally, where DOES Laura fit into this awful vision??? Well, of course she doesn't. I wasn't watching way back then, but when she killed David Hamilton, wasn't that a sheer accident--and she was eaten up with guilt for years. Even Luke (with his dark side) was conflicted to the enth degree about the Mitch Williams murder and in the end, Laura keeps him from it, right?? When Luke killed, it was the AWFUL people that died--the guy who was trying to destroy the world, the guy who he thought killed his beloved Laura, and of course, Frank Smith who had endangered his life, Laura's and Lucky's for YEARS. Now, at 16 you murder someone, your dad pats you on the head, and Guza rewards you with a love interest. I am reeling here because (the best of GH, at least) is my alternative universe; my escape from my crappy day. Today, at least, my crappy day outclassed my "escape"--and WHY, so Guza can live out his gruesome fantasies?????? Well, I have some mighty fine fantasies of my own about Guza; I'm sure I have plenty of company on this Board about how Guza's demise SHOULD be played out.
All I can hope is that GH crossed a line today. Maybe somebody--like sponsors or a higher up--will see how inappropriate today was and issue an ultimatum. If this the darkest hour is before dawn, could we have reached it???????

: Just to warn you, Claudia dies today in a
: VERY violent way. After helping Carly
: deliver her baby, Claudia attempted to steal
: the baby away, placing her in a basket and
: walking out the door. Michael walks in and,
: no joke, picks up a baseball and bashes
: Claudia in the head. The basket with the
: baby falls to the floor, and Claudia is
: dead, on the cabin floor, eyes open, blood
: running down her face from her shatttered
: skull.
:
: I HATED Claudia, and could talk easily about
: all the disturbing things I wanted to see
: done to her. But the actuality of it was
: brutal, ugly, and extremely inappropriate
: for Daytime
