First of all, WELCOME, Classic!! It's nice to have you here with us on this board. I too have been following Sus' wonderful playlist, and I have fallen in love with GH all over again. Don't forget the hairdresser!!! Tony mocks his early, curly-haired Luke, but I certainly don't! That "Botticelli" look made him a star. The hairdresser was a woman by the name of Kathy Kotarakis. It was her concept that the lighting would give that curly hair the look of a halo. Luke came on as a rather gawky guy. He was skinny, and sort of awkward, but he found his groove with that hair. I remember the day the did it!!! It was kind of shocking to see all those curls, but it seemed to give him balance...increased his volume so to speak and gave him this appearance of someone who was not straight-laced and conforming.
Big hair became really popular because of the success of that show. I even convinced my husband to let his hair go naturally curly because of it!!! Take a look at all the ladies...Lesley, Bobbie, Jennifer...everyone was curled and teased. When Tony came back in the 1990's with his straight "Dutch Boy Paint" look, he lost the spark of the freedom that that curly hair expressed.
Hair is an important part of the character for Tony. I'll tell you a funny story. I was on the set a few years ago. Tony was about to shoot a scene with Luke rifling through some files in the police station. The make-up /hair girl came over and dusted his face with powder and combed his hair. He politely let her do her thing, and when she left, he took his hands and tousled his hair! He wanted Luke to look like he was out of control for that scene, and the mussed hair helped. He didn't care if his hair flattered him or not.
There was great attention paid to detail in those days. People wore coats in the winter. Their outfits complemented each other in love scenes. People took taxis to get around the town, and you could almost imagine the layout of Port Charles...how long it took to get from the waterfront clinic to Kelly's or from the hospital to Lesley's house. All these things gave a sense of reality that is totally missing now. None of this would matter if the writing were any good at all. But Bob Guza is TIRED. He really needs to move on as does Jill Phelps and Brian Frons. These people have no concept at all about what attracts a daytime audience. They have no concept of drama or art. If they were in charge, Tony Geary would never have worked on GH, TG and GF would never have been paired, and there would never have been the brilliant storytelling that Gloria Monty inspired. What you have now is barely a shell of what was. It is sad, sad, SAD!!!!

: I'm not sure if I have ever posted here
: before, but I have to post on this
: unbelievable piece of video.
:
: Frons is so CLUELESS. So much went into the
: wonderful GH years of 79-80 (and 81-82). He
: implies that the one right (which is in his
: mind, tawdry and controversial) idea from
: one writer could recreate the magic and
: ratings of GH 79-80.
:
: I have watched the old classic GH clips
: posted by sus (?) on You Tube.
:
: The success of those days can be attributed
: to the talented, soulful, and
: "free" acting of TG and GF (who
: brought so much more than what was on the
: page); the production and direction of the
: great Gloria Monty; the complex and
: unconventional character-driven writing; the
: spot-on camera angles; the wonderfully
: contrived wardrobe choices; the surprising
: lead and supporting casting choices; and who
: knows how many more who contributed behind
: the scenes in the quest for "good
: theater".
:
: Frons, JFP, and Luza are looking for the
: cheap hook, using marginal writers and the
: nearest average, scantily clad actress.
:
: With these 3 at the helm, daytime is
: probably as good as dead. At least we will
: have You Tube.
