If you wanted to bash our heads in with that possibility, you would have had James think about how Anne had been throwing up every morning for the past week, which is the typical sign in most stories. All I will say is that I hope for the best and that there was this tidbit in chapter 4 to help me consider this possibility: "At this rate, we'll have a dozen children, she thought wryly, as she resumed her descent. She knew this was a useless objection. When she had mentioned it to James, he had merely smiled and begged leave to inform her that he liked children very much, and wasn't it fortunate that theirs was such a large, accommodating house? As Anne was very fond of children herself, she had been left with nothing to say." One of my most fav passages in the story.
