... a cross-town move. Which means one throws everything into open-ended boxes, willy-nilly, and stuffs them in the car. Then one stuffs them in the new garage, willy-nilly. Picture stacks of boxes, all marked "miscellaneous."

The distance-move, on the other hand, is more daunting. Months ahead of time one patiently begins to pack, labeling boxes and throwing out the mountains of junk items ... because it costs good money to transport junk.
This new place is less than a mile away. And we have teenage/college-age sons and their friends to help with the furniture, so it shouldn't be too bad. Ah, well. One way or the other it will get done. I do my best work under pressure, or so I tell myself. Actually, after a summer spent sitting in front of the computer (editing), I'm looking forward to physical labor.
