Not on your life! How much privacy was there on a ship of the line? Mrs Croft, well ... she was a sinewy old bird, wasn't she? The crew might easily give her a wide berth.
But a drop-dead gorgeous, at-the-top-of-her-game woman like Elizabeth? Who is generously endowed in all the right places? Every member of the crew, to a man, would beg to donate his ration of water for her bath! And how many peep-holes would be bored into the walls of Admiral McGillvary's cabin partitions?
How fervently the men would pray for a French ship to be sighted, prompting the order: "Beat to Quarters" ("Battle Stations!"). For then the walls would have to come down, and ...
Right. No, Patrick McGillvary would rather lose a hand than take his lovely new wife to sea!
