...Caroline Bingley?? Color me flabbergasted -- who'da thunk it? And yet, what a perfectly awful, splendid pairing they might be! It's reminding me of the couple (forget their names just now) from Our Mutual Friend who got married because each thought the other was rich and, when it turned out to be a mutual swindle, found endless ways to live on credit and their friends' hospitality.
Patrick nicely took the wind out of Sir Walter's sails at this first meeting, so I can hardly wait to see what will happen over dinner. (With the wedding happening as quickly as it did, was there actually any legal agreement about Elizabeth's settlement? Good thing Mr. Shepherd is in town to straighten things out, if needed.)
Mary has been driving me batty for ages now, but I actually felt a bit sorry for her here. Is this the low point from which she might start a reformation?
