Her Patrick and your Patrick are, I assume, essentially the same guy, but the details and context you've added makes him so much more loveable.
I'm nosy and read this post though it doesn't concern me. (Be warned, I read everything!) And I have to say that I think Patrick might have a seizure were he to know he's thought of a "loveable." Dashing, dangerous and manly, yes! Loveable? It makes him sound like a terrier.
But I know what you mean, Kate. Laura does a wonderful job with Patrick. In some ways it's very unfair that she's had so much time to explore the character. In my work he is always a foil for Frederick to highlight his more honorable nature. (Patrick has a dark side that doesn't fit with the tone of Mercy's Embrace.) Were I to use Patrick to his full capacity, who knows to what depths we might plunge?
