The thing you do so effortlessly is what I struggle with: descriptions. The words flow from your pen, spinning such lovely images in my mind. Wow! I can, like, see the places you write about. I am there!
On the other hand, my characters are more like talking heads. Yak-yak-yak! Granted, they're very entertaining, and I like to think that they draw readers into the story and make them a part of what's going on. But you need to know that I grind my teeth and labor to describe the elegant sitting room they've just walked out of, or the flowers blooming along the garden walk, or the rain drumming on the umbrella. That kind of thing is a piece of work!
My hat is off to you, Barbara. I watch and learn. You go!
